I’m not normally into this sort of thing as I find them over morbid, but I’ve been thinking about the things I would like to do before my will gets read. This is more about setting some goals than anything else, some things I will work towards in so far as I am able.
Top of the list is see my daughter grow up, become independent and find whatever makes here happy. A pretty obvious one I guess but when you’re a parent, it’s the kind of sappy thing you think. I’m totally OK with this.
Recapture the halcyon days of my youth by owning a sports car again. I had to trade in my 2 seater, mid engined convertible for a family saloon when my kid came along. Unlike many a stereo type, I don’t at all regret selling it, but that doesn’t mean I don’t miss having a cool, fast car. One day, I will have another. I hope.
I’m not massively into traveling, though I do love to visit my buddy in Hamburg, I’d really like to go back to Australia, and meet all my game dev buddies and the cool folk there. I’ve made so many connections since I started making games, and (to me) surprisingly a lot of the were in Australia. I’d love to one day meet these awesome people in person.
I’d love to attend a game show like PAX or EGX or something. Either as a consumer or preferably as a gamedev showing off his game. First of course I need to make a game worth showing, which leads me on to…
I really want to make a game that’s at least moderately successful within it’s niche. It doesn’t have to make me a pile of money (though that would certainly be nice, and help with some of the other stuff on this list) but I would like it if was recognised as pretty good within the scope of it’s audience.
The last thing I’d like to put on this list, I’d like to become someone that other gamedevs might come to, to ask for help on stuff. I just like to be helpful, and I’ve gotten so much help since I started I’d love to be able to give back to the community in that way. And in that respect, it’s something I’m working towards. I’m constantly trying to learn, I challenge myself, and most importantly, I try to listen and learn from those who are smarter and have more experience than me (pretty much everyone I guess!).
What’s on your bucket list?
