Another short blog. I was away on a family holiday for most of the week and just got back today. But don’t worry, I’m not going to bore you of slides on my trip to Rosslare! But what I will do is basically recommend (in a kind of follow Friday on a Sunday way) some very cool people to follow on twitter because they’re a bit like family only they might be a bit more interesting to you. In no particular order:

Rob @retroremakes

Rob has a handy jump off point for the many things he’s involved with. If you’ve checked the link you might have noticed he’s got something to say about games. I couldn’t recommend another blog more worth reading than Rob’s if you’re an indie dev. He’s been around a while and unlike a lot of folks out there seems to be totally grounded. And please, check out his latest awesome game Death Ray Manta, it’s a joy to play and I can’t wait for Death Ray Manta 2.

Janie Mac @jatosha

Jane is many thing (as are we all), she’s a mum, a wife, a PhD candidate, gamedev and the founder of @PlayWriteOnline. As a small disclaimer I have been published on her site, however that has little to do with my recommendation that you follow her. She is a wonderful person, full of insights into both gaming and mental health issues and is one of those genuine people that are hard to come by on the internet today.

Alan Zucconi @AlanZucconi

I don’t know Alan Zucconi too well but I’ve been following him for a while and he knows his stuff and is very knowledgeable. Also well worth checking out is his website, which contains a bunch of super helpful and free tutorials which is updated regularly.

Sophieeee @S0phieH

Sophie is a pretty cool gamedev who regularly tweets about her current projects (Her latest is in VR which is pretty cool). She’s also got a few games out on itch which are worth checking out. She does have a blog but I don’t think she’s updated it recently, still worth a read though.

Hug Medic Kale @DarkestKale

Kale is just one rad dude. He’s a seasoned gamedev with a few cool games under his belt. Quarreis of Scred is on steam and the rest of his collection is on his itch page. I highly recommend at least picking up Seas of Scred, that game is tight. Kale often tweets as he devs which is pretty interesting and can be quite enlightening. He’s also super supportive of other devs and one of the bigger reasons that I’m a dev myself.

Carin McLeoud @Carin_McLeoud

Carin is all kinds of awesome. She’s a lot of fun to follow and sometimes posts some light NSFW stuff in her timeline and some definitely NSFW stuff on her website. She seems to have very much a cheerleader mentality and is always happy and effusive when people do cool stuff which is great to see but beyond that she also has a lot of interesting and insightful things to say, ask her about copyright law!

Mister Bums @Worthless_Bums

Bums is the developer of Steam Marines and is working away on Steam Marines 2. Bums likes to rant about gamedev, and finance (which is super important in gamedev/indiedev) stuff and every time he does I have learned something new and useful. He also likes XCom, like, a lot. He doesn’t live stream his games but he does live tweet them and it’s really cool listening to him pick apart mechanics or talk about the pros and cons of certain actions in games.

Moxie McMurder @MoxieMcMurder

Moxie is a film critic and a feminist. She’s bad ass is as bad ass does and I think she’s writing a book about it. I’ve a lot of time and respect for Moxie, she always seems to have something interesting to say.

Eeve Somepx @somepx

Eeve is a dad,  gamedev and artist. He’s released a few cool games and a huge amount of cool pixel fonts. Eeve’s website is a little bare bones but all his stuff is on there. Eeve is a really nice guy and even when he’s going through shit still manages to tweet about other people cool stuff.

Fiona Summers @FionaSarah

Fiona is just hella cool. She posts a lot of cool/interesting/funny stuff relating to her gamedev, manga, anime, cats and whatever. Her website isn’t exactly packed with stuff but her game PixelPics does look interesting and is exactly her.

Edward del Villar @Ed_dV

Edward is an animator and gamedev that knows a shitload about both. I’ve found him to be fun, friendly and a helpful dude and is listed in the credits of my game for just those reasons. Check out his blog for a lo of cool screenshots and insights into his work.

Tweets Rated ‘POOR’ @TenaciousBats

Cara changes her name relatively often so this may well be wrong by the time you read this, if so, don’t worry about it, it’s just a name! Cara has a lot of interesting things to say, is a staunch feminist and one of the cooled people I know on twitter. I’ve learned a lot from her. She is sometimes a little NSFW, just so you know.

Need More Loot @NeedMoreLoot

Loot is a gamedev who knows his stuff, and it’s worth reading his blog, even though it only has one post, it a post worth reading if you’re a Unity dev, particularly a new Unity dev like me. (OK it’s two posts but they are on pretty much the same topic).

Eniko @Enichan

Eniko is super cool. She does a ton of stuff and I just don’t know how she does it all, and so well. She is a gamedev, one of the founders of Kitsune Games, is currently working on MidBoss, and is responsible for a favourite puzzler of mine, Ultra Hat Dimension (which to my shame I haven’t finished since I got stuck on the second to last level), both of which are available on her itch page. She also regularly posts videos on her YouTube channel, well maybe not recently but there is a lot of content on there and I’m sure she’ll get back to it when she gets a chance. Her posts often swing from the technical to games to interesting RT’s.

OK, one thing about that list that I’m sorry about, I just can’t do everyone here the justice they deserve. I hope you consider following some of the people on this list, everyone of them has had an impact, not just on my feed, but also on my life in some way. This list is also far from exhaustive, I just don’t have time to list all the people I think are worth following, sorry if you’re not on the list, maybe next time!
