Short, bitter sweet

Unfortunately my computer’s CPU is continually overheating, so I’ll have to wait to payday to order a new cooler as it seems the old one is has gone the way of the dodo. I’m actually writing this on my Wife’s old laptop which is currently roasting my legs. Thankfully it’s payday next week so hopefully only 2 weeks till I get the part.

In other news the station generator is coming along nicely, once my computer is up and running again I’ll be able to publish it fairly shortly after that. Major new features are a much cleaned up UI, and more station types, the Bridget’s cross, the circle and the ring so variability is much improved.

I’ve also now got a Steam GreenLight account up and running so at some point in the future the station generator will be going on GreenLight, and very soon The Willow Effect will be gong up, I just have to set up the page and descriptions and such and make it live.

So while today’s post has been pretty short at least some of it has been sweet!

Another short blog. I was away on a family holiday for most of the week and just got back today. But don’t worry, I’m not going to bore you of slides on my trip to Rosslare! But what I will do is basically recommend (in a kind of follow Friday on a Sunday way) some very cool people to follow on twitter because they’re a bit like family only they might be a bit more interesting to you. Text Adventure Tutorial: Using Useful Uses

Time to dig into the useful stuff. We’re gonna work on the USE command which will enable players to actually effect their environment directly. There’s a bit of work involved here, and it’s mostly in the setup. The USE function is very simple in itself, and the USE command in the stepper is fairly straightforward, however we’re going to have to add a bunch of information to our nouns, or objects, so that we can use them with each other.

Compounded

As you’re probably aware, I kinda like video games. Just a bit, ya know. But they’re not my only gaming love. I love tabletop gaming too. From pen and paper RPG’s like Shadowrun and Fate to card and dice games to cooperative and competitive board gaming. I might do a post on my table top gaming sometime but today I’m going to talk about board games. My small collection contains Galaxy Truckers  (Anniversary Edition), Hegemonic, Catan, Lego Creationary and Compounded.

I want to talk about Compounded today, because even though my other games are great, Compounded is the one my friends and I keep coming back to. And there’s a good reason for that, it’s easy to pick up (and re-pick up after long absences from gaming) and pretty fun to play.
